16mm Leather Watch Straps in Different Hides and Finishes

There is a particularly wide choice of 16mm leather watch straps, including calfskin, alligator, crocodile, lizard, buffalo, ostrich, goat and other leathers.

You will also find alligator-embossed, crocodile-embossed and lizard-embossed styles, giving you another way to get the distinctive patterned look of these materials.

The hide and finish can make a noticeable difference to the overall look of the watch. Calfskin is available in smooth and textured finishes, buffalo often has a more pronounced grain, while alligator, crocodile, lizard and ostrich have distinctive natural patterns of their own.

Quick-Release Straps and Buckle Options

Many styles are available with quick-release spring bars. A small lever built into the spring bar lets you remove and refit the strap without using a spring bar tool, which is useful if you like changing straps regularly.

Selected straps are also available with different buckle or clasp finishes, including polished, brushed, black, gold and rose gold. This gives you the option to choose hardware that works with the finish of your watch case.

Fitting and hardware choices vary by product, so check the individual strap page before ordering.

Finding the Right 16mm Replacement Watch Strap

Start by checking that the gap between the lugs measures 16mm. If your watch measures a different size, such as 14mm or 17mm, choose a strap made for that exact width.

Next, check the length. Selected 16mm straps are available in shorter, medium, long and XL options, which is useful if a standard-length strap does not sit comfortably or leaves too much excess strap.

It is also worth checking the buckle-end width. Many straps taper, so a 16mm strap may be narrower where it meets the buckle or clasp. This is particularly important if you want to reuse the original hardware from your watch.

Finally, check the fitting itself. A standard straight-ended strap will fit many watches with conventional lugs, but curved, integrated or model-specific fittings may need a particular replacement.

16mm Watch Straps FAQs

How do I know if I need a 16mm watch strap?

Measure the inside gap between the lugs where the strap attaches to the watch. If it measures 16mm, you need a strap with a 16mm watch-end width. The size may also be marked on the underside of your existing strap.

What watches use a 16mm strap?

16mm is commonly found on ladies' watches, vintage pieces and smaller-cased watches, although it is not limited to these. The correct strap size is determined by the lug width rather than the overall size of the watch.

Will any 16mm watch strap fit my watch?

Not necessarily. Most standard straps will fit watches with conventional 16mm lugs, but curved ends, integrated fittings and model-specific attachments can require a particular type of strap.

What is the difference between a 16mm lug width and buckle width?

Lug width is measured where the strap attaches to the watch, while buckle width is measured at the buckle or clasp end. Many straps taper, so the two measurements may be different.

Can I change a 16mm watch strap myself?

In many cases, yes. Quick-release straps can usually be changed by hand, while standard straps may need a spring bar tool. If you would rather not fit the strap yourself, a local jeweller can usually help.
