Omega Seamaster NZL-32 Chronograph

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

If you are a fan of sailing, and the famous America’s Cup in particular, what timepiece would you choose for the regatta’s participants? Omega Seamaster is probably the best answer one may think of!

The legendary Omega Seamaster watch line has been recently completed by a new chronograph model created specially for Emirates Team New Zealand, with Omega chosen as the team’s official watch. The timepiece bears the name of the boat that won the prestigious regatta in 1995.

Dean Barker, skipper of Team New Zealand and OMEGA Ambassador, took part in the development process of the timekeeping novelty.

The new OMEGA Seamaster NZL-32 Chronograph is an elegantly designed timepiece of utmost functionality. The watch was specially developed for the regatta and represents a high-precision instrument that is able to measure performance to one-eighth of a second.

The latest Omega Seamaster is characterized by appealing aesthetics and extreme readability. It is specially destined at America’s Cup fans and those overwhelmed by the adventurous and challenging spirit of the regatta.

The creators of the Seamaster NZL-32 Chronograph paid meticulous attention to the major needs of the skipper and his crew. They managed to make the watch most useful and comfortable to use while the crew members are involved into a regatta.

The timepiece is provided with ’start of the regatta’ function that clearly indicates the ten minutes prior to the starting signal with help of a special five-dot indicator. The peculiarity of the indicator is that the dots gradually fill with a different color as each successive five-minute period comes to the end, beginning with blue color followed by red. The new Seamaster is equipped with OMEGA calibre 3602 self-winding movement, the mechanism that guarantees chronometer-certified precision and offers a 40-hour power reserve.

The dial created in the combination of silver and black features applied, facetted hour markers, provided with luminous dots above each. The dial’s indexes are rhodium-plated, while its external black zone has white minute track. The Omega watch’s wearer will surely appreciate a clear overview of the total minutes that have elapsed. The minutes are displayed by the recessed black counter surrounded by silver at 3 o’clock. The designers opted for blue and red markings used to indicate the two five-minute periods leading up to the start. As for the smaller hour counter, it is positioned at 12 o’clock, while a discreet small seconds counter is found at 9 o’clock. To provide maximum readability so important for the regatta competitors, the skeleton hour and minute hands are Super-LumiNova-coated, and the chronograph counters’ hands are distinctively red. The stainless steel 42.20 mm case of the new Omega Seamaster NZL-32 Chronograph watch is finely polished and brushed. It has inherited the distinctive shape and horns of the brand’s iconic Seamaster line. You will also notice the push buttons on the left side of the case at 8 and 10 o’clock, the design peculiarity that adds to the chronograph’s balanced, harmonious appearance. The start/stop function is activated by pushing the button at 8 o’clock. The case of the watch is equipped with a screw-in back and crown to ensure 150-meter water-resistance. The case back of the Omega watch is stamped with a seahorse, the symbol of the Seamaster collection. To add a final touch to the bold and equally elegant watch, the new Omega Seamaster goes on either a brushed stainless steel bracelet or a black rubber strap, provided with white stitches and a fold-over clasp.

The De Ville collection is also remarkable for the fact that its watches are powered by fine movements to match the refined models.

Omega De Ville name has become synonymous to sturdy elegance. The initial timepiece to start the De Ville range was launched in October, 1960. It became part of the promotion of the novel Seamaster monocoque models. The models formed a line of watches with flat cases, powered by self-winding movements. The timepieces with the date function were water-resistant and featured central seconds-hand. In 1963 there appeared Omega watches with dials revealing ‘Seamaster De Ville’ marking.

In just four years the Omega De Ville collection grew into the largest one of the brand. The simply designed timepieces from the collection displayed time in hours and minutes. They were equipped with hand-winding movements. Initial De Ville watches found a lot of fans as they touched imagination by their youthful appeal. The collection offered numerous variations and reflected the latest fashion trends.

A remarkable moment in the history of the collection was in 1999 when Omega introduced the new elegant De Ville Co-Axial watch developed by Dr. George Daniels, famous English watchmaker. The timepiece impressed by its supreme accuracy, innovative movement and shock-resistance.

At present day prestigious Omega De Ville watches are united into the luxurious series based upon the best traditions and modern technologies. The collection reflects the brand’s long-established traditions of fine designing and sophisticated technology. De Ville has entered the list of award-winning lines due to its aesthetic and technical distinctions. The latest addition to the collection has become De Ville Hour Vision timepieces.
